When you hear people say "we just don't need oil and gas anymore; those are energy sources of the past," do you ever think about what they are really saying? Have you ever tried to live your life absent of all things oil and gas? Well if you have or if you haven't let's take a look at what that would really mean.

DID YOU KNOW?

Petroleum is a very versatile substance and is extremely multipurpose.

What do you do first in the morning?
Brush your teeth? Go for a run? The materials in toothbrushes and running shoes are made from petrochemicals produced when petroleum is refined.

Dress to impress!
If you love your wrinkle-free shirt, you can probably thank oil delivered by pipelines. Materials used to make nylon, elastic, rayon, polyester and even “permanent press” items come from petroleum. If you wear glasses, the lenses and frames were probably made using a derivative of crude oil.

How long would it take to walk — to work?
With the overwhelming majority of the oil we produce and import devoted to powering our cars, motorcycles, trucks, trains and planes, the impact on getting around would be most dramatic. And remember, even if you walked, more than likely those shoes have petroleum products in them.

So no matter what your daily routine is, oil and gas are essential in making your day! Learn more about your daily products and the geophysical surveys that help to make them possible Here.

Petroleum at Home

Picture
Finding a suitable place to work or live would be a real challenge without oil and gas.

Where would you live or work without oil and gas?
Household items, building supplies, and even the paint on our walls and décor are made with petroleum-derived products.

Here’s just a partial list for your home:
  • Caulking
  • Electrician’s tape
  • Faucet washers
  • Paint
  • Curtains
  • Shower curtains
  • Refrigerant
  • Awnings
  • Rugs
  • Dishes
  • Roofing
  • Refrigerators

It would be difficult to work in a building without encountering petroleum-based products.  A lot of the construction materials are comprised of oil and gas byproducts.  And, we are not even considering all the things in the office building itself made petroleum or how the supplies got to the building location.

Learn about the fascinating technology that gets it all started, geophysical surveys.
Energy and your home and office items start here!

Your Health

Picture
Health care relies heavily on petroleum and is used widely in health care.  Petroleum is used  primarily for transportation fuel, raw materials for pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies, and the reality is there are few available substitutes.

Think of your last trip to the doctor’s office or hospital. Did your doctor or nurse use exam gloves or disposable syringes? These are petroleum products.

Thanks to oil, we have many crucial pieces of medical equipment. Even heart valves and artificial limbs, hearing aids, dentures, artificial limbs, and stethoscopes couldn’t be produced without oil and gas.

What if you needed medicine to get better or to live?  Oil and gas play a role in that too. Nearly all drugs use some sort of plastic product or carbon-based polymer during the drug production process.

Aspirin, acetaminophen, salicylic acid, lotions and creams made with pharmaceutical grade petrolatum or mineral oil  for topical remedies for a variety of ailments.

Learn about the geophysical technology that helps you maintain your health.
Energy and well-being start here!

Fuel For Energy

Picture
Crude oil is converted into other types of fuels. Those fuels include LPG, jet fuel, petroleum, gasoline, kerosene, diesel and many more. It is a key component in the building of ships, trains and plane parts.  Even if you go “green” and ride your bicycle or walk, it’s all about the crude, from your tires on bicycle to the soles of your shoes.

Houston, we have a problem!
According to NASA, “a space shuttle’s large external tank is loaded with more than 500,000 gallons of super-cold liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, which are mixed and burned together to form the fuel for the orbiter’s three main rocket engines.”  This hydrogen is derived from petroleum.

How would your idea of the solar system and universe be different without knowledge discovered thanks to space exploration and of course oil and gas?

Oh, and did we mention that many components of the actual space shuttle are made from petroleum-based products?

Geophysical surveys ensure plenty of energy resources are safely located and produced. Learn about this technology that makes space exploration possible. Energy Starts Here!

#SocialMedia

Whether you are on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Snap Chat, Pinterest, Reddit, or Instagram, you are able to stay connected courtesy of the oil and gas industry.

How would you stay connected without oil and gas?
Your computer, phone, tablet, or other electronics, petroleum helped manufacture it.

Without oil and gas, your “smartphone” wouldn’t be smart at all. And because our devices are seldom off, that means there is a constant demand for reliable electricity, some of which is produced from petroleum. It’s predicted that as our phones get “smarter,” they will demand even more energy.

So, from the plastic it takes to make your phone, to the very power that operate it, petroleum is helping to keep the world connected and communicating.

Sports

Picture
The Olympics is brought to you by…oil and gas!

We know talent, strength and skill make superior athletes. Since the very first Olympic Games in 776 B.C., athletes have sought to improve their performance. Just like the athletes, sports equipment too has evolved to improve performance. This evolution is made possible in part by advanced materials made from oil and gas.

Gone are the days of sports equipment made of wood, twine, and other materials. Sports today wouldn’t be the same without petroleum. Modern golf balls, golf bags, footballs, football cleats, artificial turf, basketballs, tennis rackets, skis, soccer balls and so many other pieces of sports equipment are all  made, in part with petroleum.

So when you watch your favorite sport or view the Olympics, remember that oil and gas are all a part of the play and the games!
